Title:
Cardinal Deacon of San Ponziano

Born on 25 May 1920. He entered the Jesuits on 20 June 1937 and became a specialist in canon law. He was ordained on 31 May 1952 in Barcelona. He was Dean of the Faculty of Canon Law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome until 1980 and then rector of the University in 1980. He was a consultor for the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments.

He has not been consecrated a bishop, having requested dispensation from Pope Benedict XVI from the obligation to be consecrated a bishop upon being made a Cardinal.

He was made a Cardinal on 24 November 2007, having already passed his 80th birthday.
